Like:

1. What questions should I be asking myself?

At first I thought asking yourself what you should be asking yourself was redundant. It isn't. Without this question, you wouldn't ask any others, so it gets top billing. It creates an alert, thoughtful mind state, ideal for ferreting out the information you most need in every situation. Ask it frequently.

Remembering the Challenger Crew

Family members and NASA officials gathered at Cape Canaveral to commemorate the space shuttle disaster that shocked the world 25 years ago.
7 astronauts, including schoolteacher Christa McAuliffe, died when Challenger exploded shortly after takeoff from Florida.
June Scobee Rodgers, the widow of the shuttle's commander, helped set up the Challenger Center for Space Science Education.
Rodgers says the whole world saw how the astronauts died and the centre helps show how they lived.

Madonna's rejection letter.

Here's an important lesson for struggling artists: Don't let rejection keep you down, because even the most talented people get told 'no' before they get a 'yes.'

Even MADONNA.

This letter has surfaced, in which a record label president named Jimmy Ienner rejected Madonna.

Two years later, in 1983, Madonna released her debut album on Sire records and then, you know, she went on to become one of the most iconic female pop artists EVER.

The teen's YouTube channel boasts nearly 200,000 subscribers and his videos have been viewed tens of millions of times. OPRAH SPOILER-IF YOU HAVEN'T HEARD YET!

Oprah Winfrey says she recently learned she has a half-sister put up for adoption by her mother nearly 50 years ago.
Oprah introduced a woman she identified only as Patricia on her show today.
She says the woman's years-long search for her family culminated in a meeting with Winfrey on U-S Thanksgiving last year.
Winfrey calls the discovery ``the miracle of all miracles.''

She says she was stunned to learn about the sibling, telling her audience that when Patricia was born in 1963, Winfrey was 8-years-old and living with her father.
She didn't know her mother was pregnant.

Patricia says she had tried years ago to learn the identity of the woman who gave her up for adoption, and only started to try again a few years ago at the insistence of her two adult children.

Patricia had known since 2007 that the two were related, but she never attempted to profit off her discovery or contact the media because she wanted to talk to Oprah.

Minus 30 with the windchill!

Denise Butcher nominated Karen Gesner

Karen works full time. Karen is a mother of 4 all in Rep hockey. Triples age 14 and one 17 year old. When her husband is away working she gets every kid to every game and practice. This year as if she didn't have enough on her plate the coach of her sons team has asked her to be team manager. She gladly took this on to help out. Not only does she do team manager for her 17 year old sons team she also does last goal for her daughters team and does team tickets (50/50) draw for the other 2 boys. I am in awe of this women and her drive to keep her children active and moving in a positive direction always. Playing hockey in a great community in a great country that loves hockey. Please forgive me if a few details are mixed up as I lost track of her responsiblities between kids...but she never does!

Food and beverages for the entire team from Subway

and a day of relaxation at Life Salon Spa, just for Karen!

Hockey Mom nominee for Friday, January 21st.

Lisa Mills nominated Leslie Crossley.

Leslie is the busiest, dedicated and most organized hockey Mom I know. She has 4 children all of which play on a hockey team, some here at home and one at a school in the United States. She works hard to organize her world around children's sport involvement. She attempts to be at every game. With 4 different children playing the same sport there usually is a conflict with scheduling and she can not physically be in two or three places at the same time, she will make sure someone from her family circle is there to support whichever child is playing and she is at another child's. Her husband Brad also coaches a hockey team, so conflicts with scheduling can occur alot. Leslie has actually developed a color coded calendar schedule to keep everything organized. Not only is she a SUPER HOCKEY MOM, she manages to organize her household and is a full time teacher. The staff at school are amazed and exhausted by her schedule and her ability to keep going. Did I mention she also has one in the united states? She attends as many of her games as she can as well or sends support through the web. I hope you consider Leslie because we here at school certainly feel she is the Hockey Mom of the Century..... Thank you Lisa Mills

Leslie has now qualified to win:

Tickets for her entire team to attend a Halifax Mooseheads game

Food and beverages for the entire team from Subway

A day of relaxation at Life Salon Spa just for you!

Jewish memorial

A new monument has been unveiled in Halifax commemorating Canada's decision to turn away a steamship carrying Jewish refugees fleeing Nazi Germany in 1939.
The luxury liner MS St. Louis was first turned away by Cuba, then the United States and finally Canada before returning to Europe just before the outbreak of war.
Of the 900 German Jews aboard, almost a third died in the Holocaust.

The sculpture at Pier 21 called the Wheel of Conscience was designed by renowned architech Daniel Libeskind.
The large memorial is a steel cylinder tipped on its side, with four spinning gears on its face.
The words hatred, racism, xenophobia and anti-Semitism appear on each gear.

Bad Do??

Jennifer Aniston says the haircut she inspired in the mid-1990s wasn't worth the following it built.

Former ``Friends'' star says in the February issue of Allure magazine that ``The Rachel'' was not her best look.
She says she thinks it was the ugliest haircut she has ever seen.
Aniston wore the style on the show's first and second season, and it quickly caught on at salons, named for her character, Rachel Green.
Aniston's longtime hairstylist Chris McMillan came up with ``The Rachel.'' He still works with her today.

He says he'll be stepping down around the end of the summer.

Hockey Mom nominee for Tuesday, January 18th.

Joshua nominated his mom Laurie.

Mom ALWAYS makes sure that she is home from work in time to take me to practice after school. She has managed our team for 3 years and makes sure we get to go to tournaments. She attends all our hockey games and devotes lots of her free time to our team. She participates and helps us every week with our team's dryland training. She sends e-mails to all the parents letting them know when we are on the ice and trys her very hardest to ensure that our team has an amazing hockey season. If she dosn't deserve "Hockey mom of the year", than I don't know who does. She also works full time while doing all this work for me and my team. I also have a brother who plays hockey and a sister who plays ringette and she does as much for them as she does for me. I would like to nominate my Mom for hockey Mom of the year for the many hours she devotes to hockey at the rink and behind the scenes.

Laurie has now qualified to win:

Tickets for her entire team to attend a Halifax Mooseheads game

Food and beverages for the entire team from Subway

My Son Is Six Years Old . . . And I Don't Let Him Watch TV

Dear Breakfast Club,

I need some advice from your listeners.

You're always told that TV rots kids brains, and I'm a firm believer in that.

I have a six-year-old son, and I prefer that he read instead of watch TV. In fact, to keep him from watching TV, I don't even own a television. And when he goes over to a friend's house, he has to call me to tell me if they're watching TV.

Is it wrong for me to not let me six-year-old watch television? At what age should kids start watching TV? How bad is it for kids? Do other parents not allow their kids to watch TV?

I'm really looking forward to what your listeners have to say.

Angie

Hockey Mom nominee for Monday January 17th.

David Carrigan nominated Nancy Stabenow

I would challenge you to find a woman more dedicated to her children and to hockey than Nancy Stabenow. She is a single mother who has raised 6 amazing children (4 boys and 2 girls) all of whom either play or played hockey. Since her children are close in age, most weekends (and even week days) are a blur as she travels from one hockey rink to another to get them to games, tournaments, and practices. I have seen her drive between Bridgewater and Halifax multiple times in a single day. Sometimes, she needs to travel further. When she is not driving, she is sitting in the rink cheering them on. Not only does she do this for her own children, but she is quick to volunteer to help other parents who are in a bind. She does this all while maintaining her private consulting practice. She is not only an amazing woman but and exceptional and dedicated mother. If you want proof, you should meet her children. Nancy is very special person. I hope you will consider her for this recognition. Thanks

Nancy has now qualified to win:

Tickets for her entire team to attend a Halifax Mooseheads game

Food and beverages for the entire team from Subway
