In 2004, 46-year-old Connie Culp of Hopedale, Ohio (--about 50 miles west of Pittsburgh), was shot in the face by her husband Tom in an attempted murder-suicide. Both of them lived. Tom was convicted of attempted murder and received a seven-year prison sentence
--And while Connie survived the attack too . . . the shotgun blast ripped away her nose, cheeks, upper jaw, and the roof of her mouth. Basically, she was left with her eyes, chin and forehead. But listen to this . . .
--Starting in 2005, Connie underwent 30 operations, and last December . . . she became the first person in the U.S. to ever undergo FACE TRANSPLANT SURGERY. It was a 22-hour operation that replaced 80% of her face with tissue from another woman who had recently died.
These are Connie's before and after pictures.
