Canadian Military Mocked

An American T-V talk show on FOX News has taken aim at Canadian soldiers. It mocks Canadian Forces General Andrew Leslie's claim that the tapped military would need a one-year break after the Afghan mission winds down in 2011.Panelists on the show mocked Canadian soldiers as slackers, and suggest the soldiers need time off for ``manicures and pedicures.''The item aired last week, before four Canadian soldiers were killed in Afghanistan on Friday.

Have a look for yourself asnd tell us what you think.

Oh my gosh,
That was absolutely appalling. I wonder if they managed to listen to the news the next day to hear that we lost four more lives because Canada is assisting their soldiers in fighting the same war. How dare they minimize what our country is sacrificing. One life lost is one too many - regardless if they are Canadians or Americans. They should be ashamed of themselves!

This does not surprise me. I have met quite a few American's over the years. They truly don't know anything about Canada in any meaningful way. When they are given meaningful information they are shocked and amazed. I have even had a few say if they could they would move here in a minute.

Have you ever been to the states when watching TV. It is like Canada does not even exist. They skirt around all kinds of information in which Canada has participated in many different ways.

They can be very arrogant which I think will definitely hurt them in the long run.

The "most powerful country in the universe" should be totally ashamed of this group of individuals. I am not at all surprised by this show of ignorance. Thinking their way of doing things is what is best for everyone is what they are famous for. Canada goes around the world on missions of Peace and the United States goes on missions of starting wars. Just a bunch of bullies really. I am sure these are just a few bad apples and that their are many wonderful people in that country who are just as upset at those comments as we are. They are lucky to have us at their border. Who took in so many of them when air space was shut down after 911? Canada that is who! That false feeling of being so much better than everyone else is exactly what has caused their citizens to be so disliked around the world. I feel sorry for them really. To be so insensitive to others will limit what life has to offer any of those people. Personally there is not enough money in the world to make me want to be an American.

I guess this just shows how some Americans are uneducated! Some of them don't even know where Canada is and maybe those characters fall into that category. Sometimes it is just better to consider the source and frankly these are a couple of nobody's who really have nothing very interesting to say. My point exactly. After all it was the Americans who brought us to this terrible war.

IT'S PEOPLE LIKE THAT THAT GIVES THE SO CALLED.....
"most powerful country in the universe"
THE WELL EARNED NAME...
"THE UNITED SKANKS OF AMERICA".
SADLY IT'S THE LIKES OF PEOPLE LIKE THEM" THAT HAVE AMERICANS SOOOOOO DISLIKED AROUND THE WORLD AND THEY PROVE THAT "POWERFUL" SEEMS TO HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH KNOWLEDGE, OR..INTELLIGENCE .

Go to fox news on the net and there is a spot right on the front page about this Red eye fellow and leave comments. I did.

It amazes me that people that uninformed, uneducated and downright STUPID are allowed on air. What ignorance. It's no wonder that Americans have no respect from other people when idiots like that are on air. To make uninformed remarks about another country and culture that they obviously know nothing about and to disrespect our soldiers when we at least honour ours and our whole country know when one of our boys have made the supreme sacrifice whereas they just post a number and a few news shows put up a few pictures now and then of one of their war heroes. Shame on them but they're obviously so ignorant the concept would escape them.

You have got to be kidding, i had to stop that video half way through, i would have loved to have been part of that panel to speak my mind, well if i got that chance before i jumped across the table at them, someone should send a copy of that to the President of the United States.

Dah,
I guess we know why USA is in the state of affairs that they are.
Most Americans don't know their own history and what's going on in the country let alone in another country!!!!!!!!
That's like a Canadian saying all Americans wear a colorful flag???

Anonymous said...

SO typical, just another IGNORANT U.S comment.
When circumstances "affect" them they are quick to react but very rarely do they take the time (like most reasonable people would) to make sure they have their facts straight.
Just makes me being a Canadian that much PROUDER!

O My God! As an American Citizen who has lived in Canada for 28 years I have never felt so ashamed of my Country. I always considered myself lucky to have been born in the U.S.A. but at the same time I have always felt like I am more Canadian than American, I have always been proud of both Canada and the U.S.A. and considered myself very fortunate to have lived in the two richest countries of the world. My heart goes out to all of the Milatary families who have loved ones who are posted in Afganistan, and who have lost their lives for this great country we live in. My children attend a school that is largely populated by Military children and I feel so ashamed that these comments have been broadcast on National television.

Go figure, the USA taking a shot on a conutry that knows how to "respect" other people. I can see how the Americans can think that Canadians stop for that "BS", mainly because we are still seen as "Peace Keepers" during the war. Jealiousy can always suck for the "ignorant" people that think that his/her country is better than the rest. Thinking that Canadians need to stop for those things is understandible when you think you are "god" and soldiers that are "more humane", stop fighting for such things like that.

This just shows how much the Americans really are "ignorant", selfish, and believe that they are better than everyone else. I just wish the Americans knew how to think before they stick his/her foot in his/her mouth.

With all of the "censorship" that is being applied to the television (Hockey Night In Canada = CBC), I wonder how much FOX "paid off" the "censorship people" to be able to "air" that type of show and not think there was anything wrong with what is being said. Believing no one would "mis-interpret" what? The truth of what the Americans believe? Or is it the fact that they forgot that Canada can receive "FOX shows" too?

Are you kidding me? As a PROUD CANADIAN WIFE OF A MILITARY MEMBER, I watched the ill informed, uneducated morons as they lashed out against my country and against my husband's career. Having served in the 1991 Gulf War was on one of the first ships that left after 9/11 this is a slap in the face to any Canadian military member and their families- they should be ashamed and owe Canada a public apology

Anonymous said...

I find this very disturbing but at the same time I realize this is the work of a few people and it is not fair to tar all Americans with teh same brush. I have a nephew right now serving in Afghanistan and I pray daily for his safe return and for the safety of all his peers. May those who have sacrificed their lives for our safety, rest in peace!!

I feel bad for people that are uneducated but think that they know everything. Before anyone on this panel opened their mouth they should have known facts about Canada, but one guy tried to take aim at Mexico too without knowing their culture. It is people like this that make United States look and sound superior and stupid all at the same time.

Being a military member, and having worked with the Americans in deployed operations or attending courses in the States, I can assure myself that those comments heard are not what the majority are thinking. This is only about shocking and getting upfront with a show that is clearly uneducated and ignorant. It is sad that because of their freedom cultulre, they think they can openly make any type of comments on air.

Well it really doesn't surprise me American's are very uneducated people after all they think we live in Igloo's!!!! Yes this is a question one of my friends from the USA asked me at one point. Just the same as she asked do you have things like bank machines and movie theatres. My favorite question yet was so do you all celebrate things like Halloween,Easter,Valentine's Day!!!! Lack of education and nothing but arrogance they think we are out of the sticks and know nothing. Well we do and what was said on that show was not only appalling but shows their true colors. IT was not funny to have those families lose their children. The whole thing makes me sick there is nothing funny about war!!!!

I am a military wife (well ex, my hubby retired after serving his country and the great people of it for 21 years). And thankfully a navy wife and not an army wife, I am very thankful that my husband has never had to go to war. Granted he has completed many missions the Gulf War , Bosnia and the list goes on and on.... I could not believe that FOX news has the nerve to mock the Canadians, we have done everything the Americans have asked of us. Our men and women have died fighting the war for the American's ...... We didn't start this war, they did…. Canadian peacekeepers went over there to help out, now they are being mocked. Disrespect at its finest .... I wish we were still the peace keepers but times have changed and unfortunately we have too as well..... I am proud to be a Canadian and I support the men and women of ALL COUNTRIES fighting the war with Americans.....

Anonymous said...

Once again...we hear shit news from the delusional Americans. The men and women who serve our great country CANADA should be proud of the job they do and deserve (and by deserve I mean they shouldn't be fighting a war that will never be won)a worthy break from honest hard work. These people (FOX news crew)have been brain washed by the American government thinking they are the most powerful country in the universe...please!!! The only thing that Americans are great at is making total asses of them selves and showing how truly ridiculous they sound!

Anonymous said...

Education is the word for these people, look at the real news. No we do not have what the american forces may have but we are rich in other aspects. We as a country would hope that the idiots beside us would not cause wars so we do not have to go to support them. Why do they think we are loosing people, it is not because we want to. SHAME ON YOU......

Gina said...

many comments on youtube said "this is not the opinion of most Americans and it was just a joke" well, I think for a show to survive and even a network you are required to have good if not great ratings...so my guess many people are watching. I believe in freedom of speech but I do not have time for freedom of ignorance. The apology, in my eyes, was as sincere as my acceptance..To mock a Canadian soldier is to mock your own..they work side by side...

Anonymous said...

I think that what those men said was despicable, basically verbal garbage. Freedom of speech eh? Well when anyone says anything negative about them they all jump on the band wagon to protest against the injustice of it.
Do those morons on that show take credit for being the country who funded and started/caused the war? NO! It was their country who trained Osama Bin Laden in their own country and then sent, him and his men to do their dirty work, what happened when they pushed too hard (as they always Do), he turned on them and there was 9/11! They need to stop and look at what the big picture is instead of mocking others and look at how they portray themsselves to the world. You can access information anywhere, anytime. BECOME informed before you air your for the world PLEASE!

Anonymous said...

They have no thought for their men, we look after ours. Their comments were appalling and I don't appreciate our country being pulled down to the dirt. I am so angry I could write for pages but will leave it as Im proud of our military. Regardless if you are a private or an officer, you are held in our highest regard whilst on deployment. Thank you Canada!

Anonymous said...

Please remember that these are only 4 Americans. That is not how they all feel

Anonymous said...

American's are ignorant and uneducated people, I am not suprised by this. With that said I am disgusted. Most powerful Country?? I don't think so. Our Canadian soldiers are over there because they started a war they were not equipt to handle and we were there supporting them. That is what makes me sick.

Anonymous said...

How are they actually ABLE to say something like that, and think it's funny?
How ungrateful!
I can't even express in words how upset I am.
I hope that there are consequences for that show being aired.
Not only do they owe Canadian military a major apology, but they also deserve to be taken off the air.
Unbelievable.

Anonymous said...

They can say things like that, and then turn around and sew the Canadian flag to their backpacks when they are travelling because the world hates them so much. Canadians have and will continue to be able to take "jokes" and shake it off because of our laid back nature, but when people are dying next to their soldiers in a war that they started...there is a line that has been crossed and no apology in the world can take that back. I don't beleive the day has arrived quite yet when they will look to the world for our help...wonder how funny it will be then?

Anonymous said...

This is why I do not watch fox, they have the nerve to put down canada, went they steal from other countrys just so they can be the most powerful country.

Anonymous said...

I understand that this show is based on satirical humor, but some things should be off limits. These brave men and women are putting their lives on the line to support a mission that was started by the US. Talk about ungrateful! The pathetic excuse for an apology should not be accepted - they're only saying that they are sorry for how their remarks were interpreted, not that they're sorry the comments were made at all. Not good enough.

Anonymous said...

That apology was unexceptable. I agree with the person who said they were sorry for how their remarks were interpreted but not sorry that the comments were made at all. It all starts with education and in an episode of are you smarter then a fifth grader I would imagine that a fifth grader would be smarter then these uneducated idiots. Children look up to adults and take in what they say. Break this cycle and create a new generation of americans educated on Canada and its people. Hopefully Obama will improve not only the American financial siduation but also those idiots on fox and their views on our Canadian soldiers.

Anonymous said...

Speaking as someone who has worked with our military my entire career, I cannot get my head around the shameful comments that were made. Families who have lost loved ones to this war must be deeply hurt by the comments. If nothing else we all know that the rest of the world loves Canadians and Americans are somewhat unwelcome in many countries. Wonder why that is...........

betty said...

Get over it, people. They apologized. They are sorry. They were ignorant to the fact. Forgive and forget. You cant hold the ignorance of a few Americans against the US! They are our neighbors. Accept the apology, and move on.
Besides, have you ever seen This Hour has 22 minutes, and other Canadian comedies.. They make jokes about the american president, etc. Not to mention little comic captions in the newspaper. It was bad timing. They apologized.
God Bless Our Soldiers. And thank you for being our, and other countries, heroes. We love you.

Though as shocked as I am by the sheer ignorance, I can't help but laugh at the irony of them poking fun at the RCMP uniform. Surely the media idiots should have been informed enough to know that Disney, the American empire (at one point affiliated with FOX was it not???) actually purchased the rights to the RCMP Red coated image that they were poking fun at. Hmmmmm..... who has a problem with culture????

Anonymous said...

The Canadian Military & Government dosn't forget about our soldiers unlike the Americans after Nam. and why do so many people think that the U.S. is the most powerful country in the universe. There not, there bullies, they start wars, however, they can't finish them. Thats why Canada is were they are now cleaning up another U.S. job gone bad.

Anonymous said...

As the mother of a young Canadian soldier who was in Afghanistan last year for seven months - I am disgusted with Fox news. It is quite clear that this television channel and their employees have no idea of what sacrifices these young Canadian soldiers are making to assist the USA in this war, which is not Canada's war. I am proud of my son and the rest of our Canadian Military for everything they do for us and our Country. At least we can say that we are loved all over the world and not hated like the Americans. It is because of comments like the ones that were said on Fox that give the Americans such a bad name. Shame on you all.

Anonymous said...

Absolutely disgusting...their apologies go in one ear and out the other. There is no excuse for such ignorance - and to top it all off, to make these comments after losing another 4 soldiers! Very sad and unforgiveable!
