Yesterday's Question of the Day results.

Yesterday we were talking about the fact that there are now 5 provinces who have a February holiday. We asked if you thought we should have one in Nova Scotia. It was no surprise that we had an overwhelming response of people saying yes, 94% in fact. 6% of respondents said no.

I think we should definitely have a Feb. holiday. However, rather than Joseph Howe day, which I have heard suggested, I think it should be a Family Day. A couple other provinces have done this and I think celebrating family is a great idea!

I would love to have a day off in February. I really think it should be called a Family Day not Joseph Howe Day. This would remind people to spend the day with their family rather they are young or old. I also think Nova Scotia is capable of a festivel like the Jack Frost Festivel in PEI.

We are a typical "have not " province and will probably not get this February holiday for 20 years or so! Unless the unions get on board and push for it in contracts etc. But the Unions in NS is running scared and will not push for this at contract time! We are all supposed to be grateful to have a job!
I myself believe we desperately need this holiday because it is such a long stretch until Easter ( our next Holiday) I actually took a vacation day , so I could attend to family and get a needed winter break!

WHY NOT A PRIVATEERS DAY....ALBERTA, ONTARIO, AND SK HAVE FAMILY DAY......MANITOBA HAS LOUIS RIEL DAY, AND PEI ISLANDER DAY, WHERE IS OUR EXTRA DAY, PLEASE LETS GET IT GOING AND FORCE THE NS GOVERNMENT TO INITIATE THIS.

I think people are incredibly demanding and unrealistic.

Family Day.....shouldn't every day be family day? Do you honestly believe people will spend the day with the family if they don't make an effort the rest of the year?

Take a look around you people - the entire world's economy is flailing around like a fish out of water. Yes, we should certainly be grateful to have jobs - just ask all those people who have lost theirs recently if they'd GIVE UP a holiday in February if it meant that they'd have their jobs back....I'd bet my money that they'd say yes.

If you work, then you are entitled to holidays. Go ahead, take one of those days and make it worth your while. Why do people ALWAYS expect the government and OUR tax dollars are responsible for you?

I am a full time working mother of two school aged children. I work hard to raise them in a comfortable home. I have to travel to do my job sometimes. But you can be darn sure that I make EVERY weekend special. That I stay involved with school when I can, that I make sure they do their extra-curricular activities and their homework, I make sure we spend as much time together as we can - everything from bedtime stories to baking and running in the park.

Family Day.....with closed shops and everything else you want to go with that - oh my, just ask the retail shop owners how tough it is already with the downturn in the economy and now people want days off (probably with pay since they need their jobs to survive).

Get a grip people. Be responsible for your own Family Days, for your own days off.........having your cake and eating it too is great, but not on the government's tab!

One person here says Family Day would "remind people to spend the day with their family rather they are young or old" - ARE YOU SERIOUS?? YOU NEED TO BE REMINDED??????

Precisely why I think such a holiday is a farce.

You're right people shouldn't need a reminder to spend time with their families. But it doesn't mean we can't have a day to celebrate families. I honour my mother every day but still celebrate Mother's Day.
