WORLD'S TALLEST BUILDING OPENS TODAY _ The world's tallest building will open (opened) today (Monday) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The Burj Dubai is about twice the height of the Empire State Building with an exterior covered in about 26,000 glass panels....

The building currently stands at just over 2,625 feet. The developer wouldn't disclose the tower's final height ahead of the opening, although most estimates put it at 2,684 feet, far taller than Taiwan's Taipei 101, which had been the world's tallest skyscraper at 1,670 feet....

The Burj Dubai's spire can be seen from nearly 60 miles away.... It's main service elevator rises 1,654 feet.... It uses 57 elevators.... There are 49 office floors.... There are 1,044 residential apartments....

It is the home of the world's tallest performing fountain. The fountain 900 feet long.
