Driving on the 103 to work every day I have noticed something that seems odd to me. I have noticed most of the people exceeding the speed limit are women. Is this the norm??

I had one speeding ticket, but it was a dooozy! The fine was almost $400 AND I lost my drivers license for a week. The worst part about all of this was I had to go home and tell my husband (a HRM police officer) what I had done ;-)
I don't think speeding has anything to do with gender .. but most likely with your brain. $400 is a very small price to pay for your little "bravado" considering you can potentially kill some innocent people ..
I drive for a living and I can tell you that gender has little to do with speeding, and I see it every day. In this fast paced world we are all in such a rush that we drive on "auto pilot", without giving our actions much thought. We notice when others make mistakes, but we are slow to judge ourselves. I doubt that there is one driver out there who can say they have NEVER sped. They may never have been CAUGHT, but they HAVE sped, intentionally or not. On the highway our mind can wander and before we know it we're either speeding or holding up traffic. I teach defensive driving, and I can tell you for a fact that although speeding can be deadly, the single greatest killer out there is inattention, acounting for 85% of all accidents. Think about it. Where is your mind while you are driving? Are you thinking about the day ahead, a fight you may have had with a spouse or teenage son or daughter? Are you allowing your mind to focus on something other than your driving. Slow down, by ALL means, but for your sake and the sake of everyone else on the highways, pay attention and arrive alive!!
I am female and have gotten more than one speeding ticket over the years. And for everyone received I've actually said to myself "Thank You for preventing me from causing an accident". I know that may seem odd to most, but really, what's so important that you can't prepare better to be on time, or arrive a little late without incident? That's what I try to do now. Thanks Miles, for your excellent insight and advice! We can all (male and female) learn from your wisdom!
