NBC Rejected This Ad Because It's "Too Sexy"

NBC has rejected an ad submitted by PETA . . . (--People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.) . . . for the Super Bowl . . . because it contains suggestive imagery featuring VEGETABLES.

--The ad is filled with scantily clad women . . . who are enjoying vegetables in a romantic manner. It also includes the slogan, quote: "Studies show vegetarians have better sex."

(--If you want to see what all the fuss is about you can find the ad . . . .)

After you take a look, tell us whether you think it should have been banned from airing during the Superbowl.

Oh yeah to erotic!!! How many young boys and teenagers are going to be watching the superbowl? Then again on the other hand it may get them to eat their vegies!!!!

yes, it should have been banned! I would not want to be watching this with my parents in the room and I AM a parent! It is WAY too sexy- the part where she licks the pumpkin- and at 24 seconds she looks totally nude while rubbing broccoli on herself!

none of the vegetables are even phallic symbols (carrots, banana's cucumbers etc.) for heaven's sake -- half of the lingerie commercials out there (victoria secret etc.) can be more offensive.

I think the men would love it but very inappropriate for children to be watching it.

Good lord, there are worse commercials than that on television! I'm sure teenagers are watching way worse things than a vegetable commercial. I have no problem with it, in face I thought it was funny!

I thought this commerical was hilarious!! Nothing offended me in it...I'm sure teenagers are watching worse on television than some woman seducing a bunch of brocolli!

I Agree! I wouldn't want to see that on TV. It is fine for late night TV but not family programing.

There has got to be a better way to promote PETA other than that commercial. I didn't like it at all,to me that whole commercial was just stupid and tasteless.

Nothing offensive! Beautiful commercial :) ... Yet there is some dirty stuff on television kids have access to before their bedtime!

I have to agree with Brad ( lol) sorry Peter,, but where there are alot of younger viewers watching the game, this AD is very very suggestive!! BUT,,it is a very good ad!!

Anonymous said...

That's just terrible! What is the real message we should be sending.. certainly NOT this!

I see no problem with this at all. Sure, it is a bit suggestive, but where is the harm in that. Let's face it, you see alot worse on the likes of Family Guy. It would get me eating veggies!

Don't think that this should be on the super bowl commerical. Way too erotic!!

Anonymous said...

Wow...people think this is way to erotic...you might need to get out a little more...and I agree there is far worse on tv and for that matter video games...
And let's admit...sex sells the superbowl now doesn't it...we would be really upset if there were no more cheerleaders...at least there are veggies in this Ad to make it healthy ;)

I don't think the protection of animals and sex need to be in the same commercial. I'm sure the goal was to get people's attention and interest, but the meaning is completely lost...
I also agree that there are worse things on tv, however I do feel this one ranks up there with the "highly inappropriate". I'm not a fan.

I don't watch sports. I am vaguely aware when some kind of *Bowl* takes place, by the activity around me, but sport-fan or not, this advert does not belong on TV!
We are so desensitized, we might not realize what kids think of it, or even offending the sensibilities of some adults!
I never cared much for PETA, and they aren't warming my heart to them, by trying to project their message in this manner. I'll ponder this more over a hamburger.

Okay, PETA is not making fans with moms who watch with their kids. I can just imagine what my answer would be if they asked me why she is licking the pumpkin. " well dear, maybe she couldn't wait for the pie to be made."

I can see how some viewers could find this ad a bit too much for kids to view. Not just that but animal lovers preach spay & neutering & I wouldn't want to see that in an ad either.

Anonymous said...

Way too much. It is this type of stuff that has the kids having kids these days. Then of course up goes OUR taxes to pay for these kids.

Stating that there are worse things on TV is not a good reason to condone something

Anonymous said...

So, you find THIS offensive! And you have no problem allowing your kids to play violent videogames!!! Did you tell them you found them (kids) in the cabbage? :)

Anonymous said...

I found this highly inappropriate for the target audience, which by the way, is not all men or even adults! To say there is worse and compare it to video games, other TV shows, is ridiculous. I woudn't let my young ones do either of those either. Choosing what is offensive to your family is a parent's job! Blocking children from viewing inappropriate commercials during sport shows is possible but only if the network lets you know that "the following advertisement may be offensive to some viewers"....in which case...the parents job is to view what the kids are watching.

That PETA commercial was absolutely disgusting!!! Not the FIRST one, but the SECOND one!!! Keep watching after the veggie commercial finishes... PETA needs to remember that we human beings are animals!!! We are no better than any of the creatures that walk on the face of this earth... Only an ignorant cro-magnon biped would think that they are superior to the rest of the earths population. And here I thought 2009 ushered in a new chapter of racial acceptance and understanding. If you feel PETA's comments AREN'T, I welcome you to change my mind... Are Lions "humane" when they kill a Gazelle? Do Cheetahs feel any remorse when they take down an animal of the plains of Africa? Do Hyenas question their methods when they tear their kill to shreds in front on their pups? Do Sharks eat Seaweed? PETA needs to seriously answer these questions before making such ignorant broad statements about "Meat-eaters". Yes, the methods used in meat production and preparation borders on torture. PETA forgets that in ancient times many of the practices used today did not exist AT ALL! Meat was left to rot, fester and decompose... Mad Cow Disease? Please... That was a common cold compared to the germs that infected neanderthal man... People today live longer healthier lives thanks to food preparation practices in place today. Humans as a race need to change the methods, NOT THE MADNESS... Let commercial 1 be aired, let commercial 2 be destroyed.

I see nothing wrong with this commercial. Sure it is erotic and suggestive but what they are wearing is no worst than a lot of beach wear out there. Hey it may even make a few people out think about the actual message. To bad it will not be seen during the superbowl. Our sociaty needs to reajust it thinking about nudity and violent.

I agree that the ad is too suggestive and I wouldn't be comfortable with my children seeing it, but BRAVO to PETA for coming up with something different to bring the plight of factory farmed animals to the general public. None of us think about where our food comes from and the treatment these animals often endure before we see them on the grocery store shelves. It really is horrendous and most people don't respond well to the reality of it. I hope that PETA can continue to think of creative and entertaining, although perhaps less suggestive, ways to get their message out.

BANNED! Sports events should be enjoyed with family and friends, including your children. Air THAT commercial at 2 in the morning when the adults are awake and are able to appreciate the sense of humor being portrayed. Arguing that there are worse things on TV is NOT a valid arguement. Appropriate time and place and Superbowl time is NOT appropriate for this.

Anonymous said...

TOO RACY!! THERE ARE BETTER WAYS TO PROMOTE BEING A VEGETARIAN. IT'S NOT LIKE THE WOMEN ARE GOING TO COME TO YOUR HOUSE AND MAKE YOU EAT YOUR VEGGIES!!!!!

Anonymous said...

There are more ads on television that are more suggestive than this one. Yes while I agree that it is sexy, I have seen much worse in the middle of the day. I have also seen shows on showcase in the middle of the day that reveal much ,more than these women. They also have worse language on them. Not too sexy for the Superbowl! Go PETA!

Anonymous said...

It's a shame some people are so scared and intimidated by anything erotic. No wonder sexless marriages are so common in North America!

Anonymous said...

The commercial is completely ridiculous. I don't even think it's a matter of whether or not it is appropriate (for the record, I say NOT appropriate) - but what is the point? How does this have anything to do with being a vegetarian? My daughter is a vegetarian, and she belongs to PETA, and some of the nonsense they mail to her, or send her via email, is just that - nonsense. They are way over the top.

Anonymous said...

Oh please... I suppose we are seeing men in tights - why not women with veggie in lingerie...but seriously, there are kids who watch football - lets just still to showing them the beer commercials and leave the soft-porn out of it.

It is the super bowl, not flick night.DOES-NOT belong on the super bowl .I like my veggies but after seeing that ,not sure I like them anymore._LOL This is not a place to be showing that type of commercial.
