Finance Minister Jim Flaherty says the penny's future is likely not a shiny one.
The Senate committee is recommending the penny be scrapped, and Flaherty's department has looked into the question.
Flaherty says the coin ``probably doesn't have that great a future,'' calling it a ``nuisance'' to many people.
He's not ready to declare the penny dead just yet, saying the government hasn't made a decision on its future.
