Hope from Halifax
The Japanese Society of Halifax is holding a fundraiser for victims of the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
The event goes Friday and Saturday at the Seaport Farmers Market.
Society members will be folding and selling origami paper cranes with all profits going to the Japanese Red Cross.
The goal will be to create senbazuru groups of 1,000 cranes strung together.
Japanese tradition says that anyone who folds 1,000 cranes will be granted a wish in this case the society's wish is for the health, safety and recovery of the survivors in Japan.
The senbazuru will be sent to the people of Japan as a message of hope and encouragement from Halifax.
