Forget the heels: Suri Cruise's latest fashion controversy is centered on an accessory for a much younger set -- the pacifier. The littlest Cruise, who turns 5 next month, has been spotted around Vancouver recently with a pacifier in her mouth.
The startling photos have prompted the question: how old is too old for such things? Sources claim that Tom and Katie's Scientology beliefs are tied in with the lingering habit.
• An insider explained, "Suri just isn't told 'no' very often. Scientology encourages you to make your own decision and learn lessons as you live your life. She'll know herself when it's time to throw the pacifier away, plain and simple."
• The source added, "It's not like they would not tell Suri not to touch a fire or run across the street but certain things they want her to decide herself including when she feels it's the right time to stop using a pacifier."

Maybe she stole it from her dad! LOL
If the child has to take the pacifier " OUT" to talk......they are too old!!!!!
Once kids can walk - they do not need a soother. People do not want to see kids walking around with a soother. Lose the soother!
Number of kids I have = 4.
Number of pacifiers they have used = 0.
I don't think a pacifier is necessary at all.
5 is beyond too old. Pacifiers help babies with their instint to suck, once they are not babies, pacifiers are more for the parent than the child. Once my child turned one, his "sookie" ( as we called it) was for nap and bedtime only, he was not allowed it any other time. Once he turned two it was very hard when the Sookie Fairy came, a lot of sleepless nights and a cranky little boy but it was way past due then for it to go, it was a crutch for him and for us. I personally think kids that still have it after 1 1/2 to 2 years old, are a sign that parents are just lazy, don't want to deal with hardship of taking it away. And for those people that say only people without kids say it's too old, WRONG. I hate seeing any child that is talking ans walking with a sookie in their mouth, and even worse, watching parents shove it in their mouth when they fuss or get upset. I am a parent and feel that I left it too long, 2 was too old and if I was to have another child, it would be gone before their first bithday!
Got to agree with you Beth, once they are walking around, they are too old for a soother. I can understand having one up to the age of 1, and maybe slightly longer for night-time, but beyond that - NO. I think it looks ridiculous when I see people out in public and they have this toddler with them, sucking away on a "sookie". Then again, I have a friend who nursed until the child was over 5 years old...that is a discussion for another day!
5 is beyond too old.The picture does have style.
