Michael Jackson (1958-2009)

... At no point today, did I think I'd be coming into work tonight to announce the death of Michael Jackson, and discuss the end of the 'King of Pop' with you ON-AIR. Michael Jackson suffered cardiac arrest on Thursday, June 25th / 2009, and this evening we chatted about the loss of a legend, and counted down the Top 9 @ 9 with the most requested Michael Jackson songs.

Will this be a day we remember in 5 years? 10? 20?
What memories do you have of M.J's music?
What are your thoughts on the entire situation?
Favorite song?

We will keep you up to date as the news conferences begin, and more is known about his death.

The King of Pop ... 1958-2009

I grew up listening to Michael Jackson. I am still in shock, it's hard to believe that the King of Pop is gone. He will be sadly missed. I am sitting here watching MM and it's all about Michael, playing all of his videos. I really enjoyed listing to the top 9 at 9 tonight. Thank You for that.

I was born in the '70's and spent me teenage years growing up, following the legacy, and listening to Michael Jackson. Michael was like a big brother to me "ya know the kind of brother you would like to be like when you grow up". The ladies sure did love him "who am I kidding everybody loved him at one time or another". I know his music, I did his dances, I even dressed like him at times.
I was on my way home with my wife from date night at empire when C100broke the news which was heard by my ears for the first time "50 year old KING of POP has died". My mind went blank and tears filled my eyes because of what I thought I heard from Zach (I just lost a brother)! My collection of every record Michael Jackson has recorded will be cheerished for ever.
I will miss you dearly Michael.

Most will rember him for the huge hits, I remember him for the beautifully hunting songs like stranger in Moscow, Earth song just for a few examples that never fail to touch my soul and remind me of the humanitarian that was always overshadowed by the pop star. He will be mourned and missed by many.

I love Michael Jackson and like many others I am in shock. I am so sad to hear people bringing up his legal problems. Let's just celebrate his life and remember what he brought to our pop culture. He was the King of pop and a true icon. You will truly be missed. RIP Michael!

I thought for a moment that it was a hoax. I imagined the reports changing swiftly that he was ill, but in good care. The reports did change from utter shock to rehashing old rumours and opinions on his weird life. I want to remember Michael as a musician who redirected the pop culture and opened doors for the black performers crossing lines and boundaries. I want to give this man the same respect we do for Ed McMahon and Farrah Fawcett. I do not want to be inundated with scandalous and hypothetical gossip. Thank you for playing his music and celebrating the legacy he has left us. I was saddened immediately by Farrah's death. I had been watching her documentary and reading updates on her condition. Michael's death did not make me sad right away. I became very sad when the media brought out every dirty story they could to rehash his life in an unfavourable light. I am deeply disapppointed by today's society apparently needing to build people up into these imaginary and unattainable statuses only to turn around and dig as deep and far as they need to to smash their worlds to bits. I pray his family and and fans will be spared of another scandal in this time of grief and that we will be able to appreciate his contributions and gifts for what they were. No one knows what really happened in his life behind closed doors and I feel it's unnecessary and disrespectful to continue to speculate. RIP Mike.

I was sad to hear the news last week. Whether people are a fan or not Michael did contribute to "pop culture" and his video for Thriller was epic. I had a chance to see Michael in concert in Seoul in 1997. He was amazing and I am so glad I got to see him perform live.
