Do You Have a Tattoo?

Do you have a tattoo? Are you happy with your "Tatt"? Would you do it over again?

I'm male, and I have tattoos, and I have learned to live with them. But I detest tattoos on women. What might seem kewl as a teenager, will continue to cover your looks for the rest of your life. IF you get too many, you'll end up buying your own drinks.

I have 1 tattoo. I had always wanted to get one but have an extreme FEAR of needles. So I promised myself that on my 40th birthday I would get a tattoo. Well, I chickened out on my 40th, but just before my 41st, I (and my best friend) decided to just go for it!!! My best friends son is quite an artist and he designed both of our tattoos, mine is an orange tigerlily on my right shoulder and my friends is a yellow rose on her left ankle. We were both so proud of ourselves for doing this especially being in our 40's, since both of our children already have 2 each, we had to try to catch up to them!!! Both of us are planning our next tattoo, what it will be and where it will go, this may be our summer event!!!!!

I am a female in my 40s and now have 3 tattoos, lower back, back of shoulder and ankle. They are all tastefully done and very well done and don't regret any of them.

I have one tattoo on my right shoulder that I HATE!!! I had it done when I was 20 years old (am now 32) and would do anything now to have it gone! Thankfully it can be covered quite easily :)

I do not have any tattoos, or a desire to have any. My bf has one from his college days on his arm which is slightly cartoonish, and I absolutely detest it. It seems to taunt me throughout the summertime when he wears it with pride the most. But it makes happy and it means something to him, so I tolerate...

When I turned 35 I was going to get a tattoo, but decided to get my naval pierced instead...that way if I didn't like it I could remove it. I still wear the belly ring and love it. When I turned 40 I decided to get my tattoo & have absolutely no regrets. It's on my lower back and has special meaning to me. I would like to get another tattoo on my foot one of these days.

I am a female in my late 30s and I have 2 tattoos that I got in the last 3 years. I really like both of them (lower back and shoulder). The first one was symbolic for me and signifies a new beginning and a sort of right of passage: a phoenix. It was very painful, but worth it. The second one expresses my personality: a small dragon. I used to hate tattoos when I was younger, but since then, I have seen many tasteful ones and have come to appreciate the art. Yes, there are a lot of ugly tattoos out there, but (like art) there are some beautiful ones, too. One just has to really consider what they want to put on their body.

Hi I'm a woman who has 3 tattoos. I got my first, A kelpie seahorse on my lower back when I was 16...although i wish i had put more thought into it at the time it was exactly who I was. My tattoos are like stamps on a passport of life. No regrets, each represents significant points in my life. I am now 29 and don't think I will get anymore, but then again...who knows where life will take me from here.
And tattoos on women don't have to be masculine ( some men have the most hideous Ink I have ever seen) so bad tattoos are NOT gender specific.

Great comments! Keep them coming.

I had the chance to emcee a tattoo festival once and came to appreciate tattoos. There are some amazing tattoo artists and some beautiful and meaningful tattoos out there.

Still, I wonder how people will feel about their tattoos when they go out of style. And, like everything else in life, they will go out of style.

After years of talking about it and looking for something that meant something and was not just a picture out of a tattoo book. I finally found the perfect tattoo and 2 weeks before my 40 b-day a got my first tattoo. I have never regretted it, love telling the story about were I found the picture and can not wait to get the matching tattoo very soon.

I'm a 42 year old womean and got my first tattoo last year in Las Vegas. I love it. It's in a discreet area and can only be seen if I'm in my bathingsuit. I went back to Vegas last week but didn't get another tattoo. I don't think I want anymore but I do not regret the one I have. It's a beautiful butterfly! It's important that you get your tattoo from an excellent artist, I've seen some bad ones and I don't blame people for regretting it! My husband got his first one at the same time. Our girl's names on his chest. We all love it!

My Family Lineage:

With a diverse family background that I am very proud of, in 1996 I began to contemplate getting one small tattoo unique and individual to me. Little did I know, I wouldn’t stop at one. A mom then of 2 teens and not getting younger, I began my family tree.

1998 - My Mi'Kmaq Native Peace Dove(Jason Sutter-Halifax, NS)
1999 - My own design Tribal baseline (Jason Sutter-Halifax, NS)
2004 - My Chinese Surname - ‘Au’ placed in a Lotus (Thomas Lockhart-Vancouver, BC)

I'm now 49 and still to be added:
- My Norwegian Personal Binding Runic Symbol placed in the centre of my back.
- Colourful and decorative leaves or stems spiraling down from the Lotus, encompassing my Personal Rune and trailing my spine to end above my Peace Dove.

I have absolutely no regrets and love my tatts. They speak to me and there are no duplications.
I suspect I may not stop here. As for piercings ..."10"

I have 4 tattoos , 3 of which are just names so far but will be added to at a later date. The other is a memorial piece to my dad.The placement of each tattoo also has a meaning, my daughters names on each shoulder so that they always have a place to lean on when needed, and my dad's tattoo on my leg for giving me the ability to stand on my own, and finally my wife's name over my heart enough said.

My favorite is the most recent one that i got as a memorial to my mother. But i do not regret any of them.... I do have to say though.. that people do look or think of you differently as a woman with many tattoos.

I was 35 when I got my tattoo and would do it all over again in a heartbeat. I'm actually looking for another to get.

I have TWO itty bitty tats....on the inside of each wrist...one says 'courage' and months later, after much self-analysis, I realized I needed to add 'forgive' to the other wrist. I believe that I, along with MOST people, need to be courageous of heart, spirit, mind and action. Ditto for forgiveness....forgive others AND forgive ourselves!

I have only one tattoo on my lower back of the Maple leaf. proud canadian!!!
I have always wanted one, and i got it when i was 24. No regrets, but one is enough for me. (especially where it was on the spine, i could of passed out!! ouch!!)Sometimes i would think of getting another one, but i don't want to be someone that has lots of tattoos. no offence to anyone out there, but that is just me. My husband got his the sametime as i did, of course he had to get the Keiths logo on his shoulder. lol
If i was to get something else, it would be small.

I have ALWAYS wanted a music note on the back of my shoulder. I thought for YEARS about something that would always represent ME ... Now, I just need to go through with it!

I could never understand why anyone would want to spend money on getting tattoos .. it's such a bad taste, you are covering (permanently) your possibly beautiful body with ink! Yak! To me (and I am certainly not the only one), being physically attracted to a person wearing tatoos is impossible.
